Our bodies evolved with the ability to eat meat. However, our systems never evolved past fat and sodium and cholesterol causing disease and killing us. That’s the disparity between eating to live and living to eat. Cavemen weren’t eating heavily salted massive t-bones with butter. They weren’t gobbling down fried chicken. But we are. That’s why many are deciding to turn to veganism to lose weight, and raw food diet weight loss methods are on the rise.
Raw food diet weight loss is not exactly veganism, mind you. They are different methods. However, with raw food, you will be eating primarily fruits and vegetables and avoiding any meat products. With some raw food plans, dairy is still okay, and even some raw proteins like tuna or eggs, but for the most part it’s about living more of a vegan lifestyle.
In terms of a weight loss diet plan, a raw food program is perhaps one of the easiest to follow and without question one of the healthiest plans you can possibly get on.
There are different raw food programs, such as a detox program and a legitimate weight loss lifestyle program. But the gist of all raw programs is fairly easy to understand. You get your vital nutrients from raw food instead of from cooked foot, thus eliminating extraordinary amounts of fats and simple carbs and sodium from your diet.
The Raw Food Balancing Act
- Carbohydrates: Stay away from bread or any food you have to cook or that has been cooked. Fresh fruits and veggies pack more than enough carbohydrates to keep you going, via natural starches and sugars
- Fats: Things like butters and oils, while technically raw, are not needed whatsoever. Instead, people on a raw food diet should opt for the healthy fat contained in nuts and seeds, olives, avocados, etc.
- Protein: Although most do not realize, beans and legumes pack a lot of protein, and nuts and seeds also contain ample protein. Protein is essential in muscle growth, and raw food diets are certainly not without their protein-packing sources
This is a very simplistic look at the makeup of a raw food diet. It takes some discipline to stick with it. Most people find themselves trying to cook just about everything before realizing that it’s against the rules – much like checking every avenue that uses electricity during a power outage. But for those strong-willed enough to stick with the plan, the results are outstanding.
